Mitzi's Cafe

It's been a few years since I've been to Mitzi's on Sorauren and I'm not sure why since I've had a couple of great brunches there (have I mentioned I love brunch??).  I was meeting up with a friend and her little one for brunch so when she suggested Mitzi's I was all for it.

They're on a corner so they have a patio on both sides of the front of the restaurant.  Sitting out there is just lovely, that is until ominous storm clouds started rolling in today which meant moving the party inside.  The atmosphere is relaxed (a nursing mom can feed her baby in peace without anyone getting their knickers in a twist) and the crew allowed us to chat to our hearts content without harassing us to make a decision immediately.  I understand when a restaurant is slammed and there's a lineup, that being a considerate patron means getting your order in first, chat after, but it's also much appreciated when you are given some room to breathe, so you catch up with your friends and take your time with the menu.

Mitzi's is pretty well known for it's challah French toast which is what my friend had but I'm all about the eggs so the poached eggs on the "specials" board was the one for me.  Their version of poached, is "corn, edamame and queso fresh succotash topped with two poached eggs and finished with chipotle sour cream". Both meals were beautiful to look at and really delicious.

This gem of a cafe, tucked away in Roncesvalles Village offers brunch all day long which includes some of the usual suspects along with a twist or two on some of your brunch favourites just to keep things interesting.

"Our dishes are not only homemade, but are seasonally relevant and come from local distributors. In addition, we offer a range of vegetarian, specialty and gluten-free options."

Mitzi's Cafe is clear across the other side of the city for me but after today I will have to make the trip to Roncy more often as brunch was fabulous!
